My current adminstrative tasks include the following major aspects:
Associate Head of School
The role of the Associate and Deputy Heads of School is to provide assistance to the Head of School as required, in particular:
- Participating in the routine management/administration undertaken by the School Management Committee.
- Membership of various university committees (primarily the Faculty Board).
- Representing the School in the faculty, the university or the community when the Head is unavailable.
- Acting as Head of School when the Head is absent on conference or recreational leave.
- Coordinating and/or managing other tasks that may be delegated by the Head.
I have been Associate Head since 2002, but with a new Head of School starting in 2007, either the management structure or personnel or both may change.
International Student Co-ordinator (Undergraduate)
The role of the international student co-ordinator is to manage all aspects associated with international undergraduate students, in particular:
- Evaluating diploma and degree programmes from overseas institutions for the purpose of formal articulation agreements specifying the entrance criteria and level of advanced standing appropriate for graduates from these programmes articulating into the B. Comp. Sci.
- Evaluating individual students from other institutions/courses for suitability for entry to the B. Comp. Sci and appropriate level of advanced standing.
- Preparing study plans in collaboration with the Faculty's Associate Dean (International) for all commencing international B. Comp. Sci. students and providing continuing advice on revisions/modifications to their study plans as students progress through their degrees.
Undergraduate Student Adviser
- Providing advice on study plans and majors to all undergraduate students on request.
Teaching and Learning Committee
The role of the teaching and learning committee is to deliberate on all aspects of the teaching programme, including curriculum redesign, pre-requisitie structure, degree programme rules etc.
