Research
Dr Wei Liu received her PhD degree from the University of Newcastle (Australia) in August 2003. She is now a member of the academic staff in the school of computer science and software engineering at the University of Western Australia. Dr Liu’s research strength lies in knowledge engineering for distributed environments, with a focus on agent technologies and the semantic Web. She also works on semi-automatic ontology learning through large text-corpus analysis, which is a crutial stepping stone for revolutionising the current human-friendly Web to a machine-friendly Web.
With the support of a recent UWA university research grant and the faculty suppliment, Dr Liu has acquired 6 Sony AIBO Robots in total to carry out research in various areas including Agent (Robot) Autonomy, Robotic Symbol Grounding, Rational Robots and Natural Language Processing. For more details about the activities the AIBOs carried out, please refer to the UWArriors Web Site.
